Development of the next generation 2012 Boxster is well underway as the images of the prototype demonstrate. However, a rumor alleging that insiders are talking about a lightweight, turbocharged four-cylinder platform for the next gen. Boxster recently began making the rounds.
The thought coincides with possible rumors of a revived 914 that could be co-branded by both VW, which means the new Boxster could certainly be fitted with a highly charged four banger. If that’s the case, we're sure this car will still offer a six cylinder option for upper range models. Such a design premise might offer more room to launch a smaller engine in the next generation 911.
The biggest modification in terms of the external look of the Boxster comes from underneath its panels. For the upcoming model will be built on a longer platform which is borrowed from the next generation 911/991. Apart from that the Boxster will have some of the features you already know about, like the front and rear fascia, center mounted exhaust pipes along with side mirrors that are restyled. Then there are chances of the new Boxster to also have some features carried over from the Panamera as well. Also, a Boxster with a longish wheelbase also leaves open the scope for Porsche Cars to come up with a baby Boxster in future.

According to British Car Magazine the next generation Boxster is not an evolution of the current model but an all-new vehicle.
The successors of the Boxster and 911 will share elements of their platform and componentry. But the 2012 model Boxster is designed with an cab-forward design so the car will be more strongly differentiated from the 911. The upcoming Boxster will feature some unique styling cues on its front and rear fascias, new headlamps and taillights, a new side air intake design and a steeper windscreen.
The dimensions will grow as well, by 60mm (2.36 inches) at the wheelbase and 37mm (1.46 inches) in total length, while the height loses 10mm (0.39 inches) and the front overhang is reduced by 25mm (0.98 inches).
