Teresa Giudice has an uncanny ability to make things appear better than they are. But this next challenge, may be hard to downplay.
Teresa and
Joe filed for bankruptcy in 2009, claiming over $11 million in debt. The bankruptcy trustee alleged that the couple knowingly withheld assets in the proceeding, including deposits in connection with Teresa's online store, TGFabulicious.com, and a $250,000 advance from her best seller cookbook,
Skinny Italian.According to a New Jersey attorney familiar with the case,
Eric Lubin, Teresa received her book contract a week before filing for bankruptcy, but didn't sign the contract until a month after filing for bankruptcy. It doesn't take a genius to see how a trier of fact could be led to believe Teresa was trying to sign the contract post bankruptcy to ensure the money came to her and not her creditors.
"How could anyone forget that they have $250,000 coming to them?,” Lubin questioned.
The offense could send
Teresa to jail for up to six months. Teresa actually spoke to
Life & Style magazine and expressed some concern. “I wish I could make this all go away,” says Teresa, who insists any omissions were accidental, “but all I can do is take this one day at a time.”
Teresa and
Joe were due in court on the bankruptcy allegations on July 14, but the matter was continued.
In true
Teresa fashion, she tells the press she sees the light at the end of the tunnel. “I’ve worked hard to brand myself,” she tells
Life & Style. “I have no fears… Hopefully everything is going to be good,” adds Teresa.
